Empty House, Hollow Man

By Sri Lekhak

Looking for an unoccupied space
in the vast cosmos
seeking to set foot in
                          I made my nest
                                       warp and weft

It's broken
by a voice singing off beat
                                       I remain all along

        a hollow man
        of an empty house!

* Translated from Manipuri by Thoithoi O’Cottage. The original poem appeared in Sri Lekhak’s Hingliba Meesinggee Catalogue (The Catalogue of Living People), published in 1995 by Sahitya Seva Samiti, Kakching, Manipur.
