Exploded Heart

By Thoithoi O’Cottage

             I
Blurred passers-by ghost past, through me
Each brushstroke gets out-aged while in labor
My canvas—a dappled rhizome plot.
             II
Face pressed into crumpled bed sheets
The shoulders heaving, a low noise muffled.
The sound of water dripping in silence.
